This tour of South India offers an ideal blend of culture, history, spirituality, and nature. It begins in Chennai and continues to Kanchipuram and Mahabalipuram, known for their ancient temples, sculptures, and stone-carved monuments. Pondicherry brings a tranquil, French-influenced atmosphere and the unique experience of Auroville, a space dedicated to meditation and community living
The journey continues to the Thanjavur region, including Chidambaram and Gangaikondacholapuram, home to some of the most important temples dedicated to Shiva, several of which are UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Further along, Madurai impresses with the Meenakshi Temple, a monumental structure brimming with color and detail, and imbued with a profound spiritual atmosphere.
The route continues to Periyar, a nature sanctuary surrounded by hills and forests, where wildlife can be observed from a peaceful boat trip. Then, in Alleppey, the experience changes as you cruise in a houseboat through the famous backwaters, lined with palm trees, local villages, and tranquil canals.
The journey ends in Kochi, a port city with a fascinating mix of cultures, where Chinese fishing nets, the Jewish quarter, ancient churches, and Portuguese and Dutch colonial architecture stand out.

Breakfast at the hotel. We will begin our journey through South India by departing by road for Mahabalipuram. En route, we will stop in Kanchipuram for a visit. View the temples of Kailahnath and Ekambaranatha. Afterward, we continue to Mahabalipuram. Arrival and overnight stay

Visit Mahabalipuram, including the Shore Temple, one of the oldest in South India, and the Arjuna Temple, the world’s largest bas-relief. This enormous whale-back shaped rock is decorated with figures of gods, demigods, men, beasts, and birds in what is believed to be a representation of the creation of the world. Next, we will visit the Rathas, monolithic chariot-shaped temples.

Depart for Puducherry. We arrive and check in to the hotel. In the afternoon, we visit Auroville, a project city also known as the City of Dawn. It is a utopian oasis where all men and women live in peace and understanding Matrimandir – ‘Temple of the Mother’ – is the meditation center located in the middle of Auroville.
Day 5: PUDUCHERRY - CHIDAMBARAM - GANGAIKONDACHOLAPURAM - THANJAVUR.

Depart by road for Thanjavur. En route, you will visit Chidambram and Gangaikondacholapuram. Chidambram is a temple dedicated to the god Shiva as Nataraja, the cosmic dancer. The dance represents the five activities of God: creation, preservation, destruction, veiling, and blessing. One of the three ‘great living Chola temples,’ Gangaikondacholapuram, built in the 11th century, was the capital of the Chola kingdom and has a huge temple dedicated to Shiva, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. In Swamimalai, you will visit an Ayurvedic treatment center, an ancient system of traditional medicine. Continue to Thanjavur, whose region is referred to as the rice basin of Tamil Nadu, and check in to your hotel.
DAY 6 THANJAVUR-TRICHY-MADURAI

Breakfast at the hotel followed by a road trip to Madurai. En route, we will visit Trichy (Tiruchi-rapali). This city, with its history dominated by the Chola dynasty, is famous for its 434-step rock fortress, carved into the rock face leading to the top. On the first floor is a large hall, on the second level is a hall with 100 columns, and the next level houses the temple of Shiva. The top level is dedicated to Ganesha. From the top, you will enjoy a breathtaking view of the sacred Kaveri River. Srirangam is located less than 5 km from Trichy and is a walled city with an immense temple to Vishnu, named Sri Ranganathaswamy. We continue to Madurai and check in to the hotel. In the afternoon, you will attend a Hindu puja, a ritual where people give offerings to the deities.

After breakfast at the hotel, you will visit the Meenakshi Temple, adorned with a multitude of vibrant colors. This temple, dedicated to the god Shiva, features 10 gopurams (towers) and over 30,000 statues. Following this, you will also visit the Thirumalai Nayak Palace, a 17th-century Indo-Saracenic style building.

Breakfast at the hotel before transferring by road to the Periyar Nature Sanctuary and Thekkady Nature Park. The park is situated within a protected area of over 750 km². Among the wildlife, you might spot animals such as tigers, leopards, elephants, deer, flying squirrels, mongooses, minks, and a wide variety of birds. In the afternoon, enjoy a boat trip on Periyar Lake. Return to the hotel.

Depart by road to Alleppey by houseboat.
Lunch on board. Cruise along the canals, observing the villages and palm groves on the banks.

We depart by road for Kochi. In the afternoon, you will take a city tour, including the Jewish Quarter and the Mattancherry Synagogue. Afterward, we move to the wharf area with its Chinese fishing nets. We continue to the Dutch Palace, built by the Portuguese in 1510. We also see St. Francis Church, the first Catholic church in India, built in the early 16th century and the final resting place of the explorer Vasco da Gama. At the end of the tour, you will return to the hotel.
